LG 55EA9800 Curved OLED TV Available For Pre-Order

Just last week we posted about how LG were talking about releasing their “prototype” 55-inch Curved OLED TV, the LG 55EA9800.

We’re since we leaked / revealed the prototype curved OLED TV back in January,  its intentions were somewhat unclear, indicating that LG wasn’t certain about its future release. But now the release has been confirmed.

The 55-inch curved OLED TV is available to pre-order today! For 15 million Korean won (about $13,500), with “deliveries to begin in the next month”, at 1,400 LG retail stores in South Korea.

As seen in our video embedded below, which we recorded at CES 2013 in Vegas back in January this year, LG describes the product as a prototype / concept, but having already assigned a model number to the TV, we knew there was more to that story.

LG claim that the curved screen makes for a more immersive experience and provides an “IMAX-like” viewing experience. Apparently there has been more than five years of research behind this TVs curved design, it makes the entire surface equidistant from the viewer’s eyes, eliminating visual distortion.

The LG 55EA9800 itself is only 17kg (37lbs) and extremely thin at just 4.3 mm (0.17) inches, and because it features an OLED screen, which provides amazing image quality. With blacks which are true black, and higher contrasts with more vibrant colors.

Samsung also had a 55-inch curved OLED on display at CES, but revealed it with much less fanfare and it looks like they have no plans to release it.

This clearly puts LG in the lead when it comes with OLED TVs. They currently have two OLED TVs available on the market today, the standard 55-inch OLED TV for $10,000, and this new curved one for $13,500.

For all of you not in Korean markets, we can look forward to release dates and pricing for non Korean market “in the months ahead”. Until then, enjoy the video below!
