LG 84-Inch 4K TV: $20,000

It looks like the race for the first to market an 84-Inch 4K (UHDTV) is one.

Just days after Sony announced the pricing and availability details for their own 84-Inch 4K TV, the Sony 84X900 at $25,000, LG have come along to steal some of the attention back.

LG announced, the LG 84LM9600 84-Inch 4K TV back in January at CES 2012, and has just recently announced pricing and release details.

Firstly, the LG UD 84LM9600 has been priced at $20,000, $5,000 less than the Sony equivalent. We’re sure LG has been keeping an eye on Sony’s pricing and has adjusted their pricing accordingly to keep undercut them.

Right now no one can seem to decide on an acronym. LG are calling it a UD TV, where UD stands for Ultra definition. We’ve also seen UDHDTV, UDTV, and 4K. They all equate to the same thing, a 4K resolution, one which is 4x that of 1080p Full HD, or 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution.

If you’re thinking there isn’t exactly much in the way of 4k content right now you would be very right. But LG has equipped the 84LM9600 with their advanced Triple XD engine to get the best out of non 4k content.

The LG 84LM9600 is expected to be available in October. As you would expect it also supports 3D via passive glasses, and the latest Smart technology.

Both the LG and Sony at $25,000 and $20,000 aren’t exactly cheap, but right now they’re the only two super sized 4K TVs out there.
