LG Announces 84LM9600 84-Inch 3D UDTV

Just a few days ago LG announced that they would be showing off their 55-inch OLED HDTV (“World’s Largest”) at CES, we thought that this would their “Big” announcement, but it seems that LG has an even bigger product up their sleeves in the form of their 84-Inch 3D “Ultra Definition” 4K TV.

We have known that LG have been working on a 4K LCD TV for a while now, but this is the first time they have announced and shown off a very impressive (and far from prototype) looking model.

While we currently have no word on model names, price or release date, we’re sure LG will be proudly displaying this 4K monster as CES 2012 next week where we will find out more.

The 84-inch LG 84LM9600 4K HDTV has an “ultra definition” resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which is four times the resolution of current Full HD HDTVs. From the photos I must say the TV looks amazing, and while it is of course very large, its bezel and the depth of the TV are very slim.

While there isn’t exactly much in the way of 4k content right now, the Cinema 3D technology LG is using makes use of a Film Pattern Retarder (FPR) screen and passive glasses, which effectively knock down the resolution, so by starting with a much higher resolution, no detail is lost on Full HD content.

The LG Cinema 3D technology can convert 2D to 3D on the fly, and allows depth control with 3D sound zooming that provides a 3D sound effect that “rivals the output of all but the best home theater systems”.

Update: LG have now officially released their entire 2012 HDTV line up, and have revealed that this 84-inch monster is called the LG 84LM9600.
