Lenovo IdeaTV K91 – 55-Inch Android HDTV

We expected this years CES to be the year of a number of OLED HDTVs, maybe 4K, and Google TV, but with the Lenovo IdeaTV K91 Smart HDTV we have a world’s first.

Externally the Lenovo K91 Smart TV looks pretty standard (and very clean), but on the inside it is anything but. Firstly when we talk about TV’s we don’t normally talk about their processor or operating system. Which in this case in Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, running on the Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz dual-core 8060 Snapdragon CPU.

Now for the basics; the 55-inch Lenovo IdeaTV K91 has a Full HD 1080p resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate, is LED backlit, and is 3D using FPR technology which delivers a flicker-free viewing experience.

You can control the K91 with your voice thanks to its natural language processing and recognition, ther is also video interaction with facial recognition enabled by a 5 megapixel camera nicely integrated into the TVs bezel. As you would expect, there is also a rather advanced remote control, which includes a touchpad, motion sensor, and a 5-way d-pad.

Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Lenovo have named their User Interface “Sandwich”, that blends together traditional TV with custom apps and VoD features. But looking at the photos, the interface looks like it’s far from ready for the U.S / European market just yet.

It features Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, 8GB of internal storage, with a SD card slot, and USB ports for additional extra storage. There is access to the Android Market, and a custom Lenovo store. Lenovo also say that the Lenovo IdeaTV K91 has integration with other Lenovo products, allowing their smartphone or tablets to be used as a remote control or additional displays.

Right now Lenovo hasn’t released any information regarding price, release dates or anything else. But we’ll be sure to hunt down this information for you.
