WD TV Play Media Streamer – 1080p $69.99

Western Digital has just announced an attractive new Media streamer box, and when I say attractive, I’m not just talking about it’s simple clean design, but also it’s price and impressive capabilities.

The WD TV Play is it is simply known is a media streaming box, which has a retail price of just $69.99, which is $30+ cheaper than a lot of other streamers on the market.

The WD TV Play aims to offer the best of both Internet streaming, such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Spotify etc, along with home network streaming via DNLA / USB of your own content via the built in WiFi or connection to a USB device.

The little device measures just over 4-inches x 4-inches and weighs just 0.32bs. The WDTV Play also has built in N-type WiFi, HDMI output with 1080p support / playback, composite, Ethernet and SPDIF optical digital audio output.

Other apps such as Facebook are also supported along with RSS feed capabilities and built in games.

It comes with a remote control, and it also supports an external wired or wireless USB keyboard for searching if you don’t feel like using the on screen keyboard. You can also download the WD TV Remote app on both iPhone and Android devices, which allows you to control the device, and for easier text input.

So just to clarify with the WD TV PLAY you get 1080p HD (HDMI) playback, built in WiFi, Internet streaming, DLNA home media streaming, USB playback, remote control, and remote app support, for $69.99.  Not a bad deal!

If you don’t own a Smart TV, or the TV in your bedroom etc is lacking these “Smart” / streaming features, the Western Digital TV Play seems like a smart way to go. Excuse the pun!
