Sharp 70-inch 4K (Sharp LC-70UD1U) Available

Sharp’s first 4K Ultra HD TV, the 70-inch Sharp LC-70UD1U Aquos 4K is now available to purchase in the U.S.

As well as being Sharp’s very first 4K TV, it is also the first 4K TV to be released with the THX 4K certification. It has a list price of $8,999.99, but it is currently on sale on line for just under $5,999.

We first saw Sharp’s 4K TV at CES, where we caught it on camera. At the time it was just a prototype model. Sharp’s original plan was to release a 60-inch TV, but it looks like they decided to to large, and bumped it up to 70-inches.

At 70-inches, it makes the Sharp LC-70UD1U stand out from the increasingly crowded 4K space. It is the only 70-inch 4K TV, with other manufacturers offering either 55-inch or 65-inch models.

Sharp LC-70UD1U Ultra TV Launched

Sharp have announced two exciting new 4K Ultra HD TV models over in Japan. The 70-inch Sharp LC-70UD1 and 60-inch Sharp LC-60UD1 both feature a 4K panel with a 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution.

What makes these two new 4K UHD TVs even more interesting to us is that they make use of Sharp’s Moth eye panels, which vastly improves the viewing experience by reducing (almost entirely eliminating) any reflections from the screen, while maintaining the bright colours and contrast much better than a matte panel.

We filmed this Moth eye technology as CES 2013 where Sharp have a HDTV setup with the screen split into three parts, and you could clearly see the difference. It was very impressive, so be sure to watch the video below.

In the same video we believe we have also managed to film the newly announced Sharp LC-70UD1!

Update: We have just received official word from Sharp about the 70-inch model making its way over to the U.S! Known as the Sharp LC-70UD1U, the Sharp AQUOS Ultra LED HDTV will be available mid august for $7,999.99. This sounds quite reasonable, coming it at just above Sony’s 4K models of a smaller size.

Sharp LC-60HQ10 – 60-Inch Ultra HD TV

While a prototype was on display at CES 2012, this is the first we have heard of the 60-Inch 4K Ultra HD “Integrated Cognitive Creation” TV turning into a production model and hitting the market.

The Sharp LC-60HQ10 has just been announced in Japan for the princely sum of 2.62 million yen. While in USD it might not be in the millions, it is still not cheap. Converted into USD it equates to just over $30,000.

When you do the math, and take a look at the 84-Inch Ultra HD TVs from Sony, and LG at $25,000 and $20,000 respectively, it looks even more expensive. Why pay more for a smaller 4K TV?

Sharp 2012 HDTV Prices

With the vast majority of the new 2012 HDTVs coming our way in the next couple of months it is little wonder that we are now starting to see more price leaks on these upcoming products.

Manufactures try to keep the prices under wraps until their products are in the stores and shipping out to buyers. Price lists are distributed to authorized dealers before the products reach them, and these dealers are often the source of the leak.

We have seen the leaked prices for Panasonic’s plasma 2012 range, and all but the very top range of Sony’s 2012 HDTVs, and now it’s time for Sharps 2012 beans to spilled.
