Sony 4K Ultra HD TV Commercial Brings 4K To The Public

We currently see Sony as the leaders when it comes to 4K and Ultra HDTVs. They have done more to push 4K to the consumer than any other company, and are involved with 4K through every step, from recording, all the way to the final viewing of 4K content on their 4K Ultra HDTVs.

Apart from the intelligent tech savvy readers of this site, the average Joe on the street probably don’t know of 4K, or what on earth an Ultra HDTV is. Well, with Sony’s help that looks set to change.

Sony has just launched a 4K Ultra HDTV marketing campaign to promote the release of the 55-inch and 65-inch 4K ultra HD TVs, and with it are going to bring 4K the the publics attention.

Sony released their 84-inch 4K Ultra HDTV back in November 2012 where we did a hands on video. This 84-inch model costs $25,000, so it’s not exactly main stream.

At CES 2013 at the start of the year they showed off their smaller 55-inch and 65-inch models, these are now available for just $4,999 and $6,999!

4K has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which is four times that of 1080p Full HD and provides 4x the image quality.

The marketing campaign commercial features Garth Davis (Read our interview with Garth here!) and Claudio Miranda, who saw Sony’s 84-inch 4K TV at the Sundance Film Festival and were inspired to work with the 4K workflow. It was shot on the Sony F65 and F55 professional 4K cameras.

“The Sony 4K Ultra HD TV really is a new way of looking at things, a new visual language. There is so much detail, it’s almost like you can walk into the picture,” said Davis. “One of the things unique to the TV is color. And the story we’ve been creating for this project is about celebrating color in lots of ways. With Sony 4K we are working at the highest end of technology and creativity.”

Sony’s 4K TVs features Triluminos technology, which provides a wider color gamut than standard HDTV.

“It is so nice to have a larger color gamut to work with in 4K,” added Miranda. “You can extract more information and show what you may not have seen before on a TV. Working with Sony 4K truly opens up the possibilities.”
