Sony XBR-65HX950, XBR-55HX950 Flagship HDTVs Available

The new 2012 flagship XBR-HX950 series HDTVs, the 55-Inch Sony XBR-55HX950, and 65-Inch Sony XBR-55HX950 are now official in the U.S and already available to purchase at the official Sony store.

While Sony announced a whole new 2012 lineup at CES 2012 at the start of the year, they didn’t announce a new top of the range flagship model. Until now that is.

Last week at IFA 2012 in Berlin, they announced the European flagship models, and we knew it was only a matter of time before these were announced for the U.S market.

Yesterday Sony sent out a press release announcing the Sony HX950 Series, stating that they would be available imminently on the official Sony Store website. A quick check of the site today, and sure enough there they are, along with the new 84-Inch 4K TV!

The 55-Inch Sony XBR-55HX950 is available for $3,499.99 and will be available on the 12th of September. The 65-Inch XBR-65HX950 is going for $5,499.99, and will ship slightly later “around September 3rd”.

Sony claim that the “Sony HX950 series is the best picture we’ve ever created”, a bold and confident statement, but looking at the specifications and features, we have no reason to doubt it.

The 1080p Full HDTV panel is finished with Gorilla Glass, and is backlit with a full array of LEDs with local dimming to provide excellent contrast ratios, deep blacks and vibrant colors. This back lighting method provides better contrast ratios and deeper blacks than the more common edge lit HDTVs more commonly found.

Image processing is handled by the new X-Reality PRO technology to get the very highest image quality. Motionflow XR 960 quadruples the frame rate to provide a picture which is free of motion blur and image judder.
