Sony XBR-84X900 84-Inch 4K 3D HDTV Announced

Sony is on a roll today, having just announced their flagship HX950 series to the world, they have now just announced the massive Sony 84X900 84-Inch 4K 3D HDTV at IFA 2012.

IFA 2012 is the second most important event after CES when it comes to the HDTV market, as it’s when the leading HDTV manufacturers announce their latest models to the market.

Known as the Sony XBR-84X900 in the U.S and simply as the Sony 84X900 in Europe (or even Sony KD-84X9005 in the U.K), the 84-Inch monster will be available by the end of the year. Currently no prices have been announced.

The 4K resolution has a pixel resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, which is exactly 4x the resolution of current 1080p HDTVs and blu-ray content. The Sony XBR-84X900 features the 4K X-Reality PRO chip which can process and upscale all content to the 4K resolution to get the very best quality out of your existing HD content.

Along with a 4K resolution the 84-Inch 84X900 also supports passive 3D technology making use of inexpensive polarized 3D glasses.

Along with it’s impressive dimensions and image quality, Sony has gone all out on the sound system and have integrated 10 speakers, which should deliver impressive bass, 3D like effects, all powered by a ClearPhase+ technology. I guess when you have that much real estate in a HDTV, you may as well take advantage of it, and load it with speakers!
