It’s not often that you see a truly game changing HDTV come along, but with the new Vizio XVT 3D 21:9 Cinemawide Smart HDTV, Vizio are delivering exactly that.
The numbers of key important in the Vizio XVT3D580CM 21:9 Cinemawide HDTV is the “21:9” which refers to the aspect ratio. TVs evolved from square looking 4:3 aspect ratio to “widescreen” 16:9 TVs, but it’s aspect ratio was still not as wide as true Cinema widescreen which has a 21:9 aspect ratio, so this meant watching movies on your widescreen HDTV still left boring black bars at the top and bottom.
Many argue that is wasted space made the viewing experience a whole less immersive, and lets face it, a super wide HDTV just looks damn cool.
Vizio will be the first to launch a 21:9 HDTV in the U.S (Philips have their Cinema 21:9 HDTV in Europe, but it didn’t take off very well due to it’s ridiculously high price tag).
The 58-inch Vizio XVT3D580CM will have a respectable $3,499 price tag and will be launched in time for “March Madness” this year. Vizio are also planning a 50-inch and 71-inch XVT 3D Cinemawide SmartTV in the future, no release date or price tag have been announced just yet.
When watching a movie the picture on the Vizio XVT3D580CM will fit perfectly and fill the screen entirely thanks to its 2560 x 1080 resolution (rather than the standard 1920 x 1080 resolution). The LED Edge lit SmartTV is also 3D and it comes with four pairs of 3D glasses. 120Hz delivers crisp flicker free images. Other features include 802.11n WiFi, bluetooth, Internet Aps, ambient light sensor, and a very high 1,000,000 dynamic contrast ratio.
When watching normal TV (which has a 16:9 ratio) the HDTV can upscale the images to fit, or you can display other content to the side of the image, such as Internet widgets, game stats etc, without covering any of the image.
